Latin American Showcase
Latin American cinema has long been moving away from the traditional ethnographic perceptions that more superficial looks might evoke. But there is something else in the air: an insider's look that sheds light on very particular and subjective aspects of our society. In this year's Latin American Showcase, humor and challenges permeate these works, without leaving aside a humanism that has deep roots in the spirit of the continent.
Harsh stories about the not always infinite promises of love clash with narratives of confrontation where other worlds reveal themselves as possible; our bodies, as witnesses or as battlefields themselves, point out paths and affirm our experiences; laughter and tears, a duality that coexists as a founding part of our identity.
From Haiti to Uruguay, from Cuba to Ecuador, we go through forests, mountains, large cities and outskirts. Among films that thrilled festivals like Sundance, Cannes, Berlin, Clermont-Ferrand and others, the Latin America seen here reflects something that is perennially present in its imagination: diversity, courage, and drive for life.
